This book is basically rich people who play frugal and profit off of it. When you bring in 4k+ per month in rental income plus income from a 250k+ job, you are not middle class. I think the message of living within your means is important, but there’s a difference between people who struggle to get by and the Frugalwoods.

Fast forward 10 years and he has paid off his property and looking forward to retirement. He did it with zero government handouts. The luxuries the author speaks off were never a part of our lives. Instead our extra money went to sponsor family to be educated. Helping someone help themselves. So to the author the happiness you seek isn’t in retirement in wildness its your legacy to the world.

I used to be in publishing and normally it went the other way around – some publisher would guess your potential, then MAYBE publish you, THEN waiting for demand from consumers. We are already here, waiting for any output from your temple of Vermont wisdom. Even though I really look forward to your book, I thank you so, so much for years of life changing inspiration.

I learned about this book from another blogger and it seemed to be something I would enjoy. I started reading the Frugalwood’s blog and even more wanted to read the book. Although the blog shows a lot of money saving tips, the book does not. The book is more of her journey of privileged college graduate to her financial independence to living on a homestead in Vermont. Although when the book was written, I think they have only lived there one year. What will the next decade take them?

My wife and I just finished reading your book ! It was one of the few books on FI that we saw at the library. Maybe there will be more soon as the FIRE movement continues to grow. But what if people don’t like the book?

I thought it was well written, although not helpful. But be realistic in your journey which may or may not be the same as the Frugalwoods. I alternated between frustration and inspiration for the entirety of this book. The author acknowledges her and her husband’s privilege multiple times, and how much of their lifestyle is only possible due to their upbringing. So it was a fine book, but didn’t have the same impact as reading a story about someone who has achieved financial independence despite adversity. I was also hoping for more advice and innovative ideas, but this was definitely just one woman’s own story.
